This is just the sort of morning where I can hear the call of the raven, but can’t see them. Shot from my back porch this is one view I always love. Maybe it’s the Mists of Avalon feel, the mountians all hiding until the mist lifts. Maybe it’s the evergreens hiding all the wildlife. Maybe it’s the sort of day that the Brothers Grimm would tell some particularly gripping tale in another country across the big pond… a raven calling unseen in the mist.
Raven Call
Tree Elf Doll
This one was one of those “I thought I was making a …”, but it transformed during the process into Tree Elf. With no plans for a side-kick, it also became apparent that the Tree Elf needed a friend, so I designed and made the little felt Owl you see in the picture.
Groundhog’s?
It’s 2 days past groundhog’s day, and still no sightings of groundhog’s here. They are more of a prairie animal, but you never know when wildlife is going to change locations. Groundhog’s in the mountains? We once saw a big horned sheep here, and they apparently don’t live here either. Last week I saw a moose on the road, I’d post a photo if I could have taken one. If you’ve never seen one they are amazing, and I’m not sure I’ll ever not be surprised how BIG they are.
Wool Felt
Okay, I’ve been packing orders, a lot of orders! One question I am frequently asked is…
“Is wool felt really worth the extra money?”
Try it once and I swear it’s impossible to go back. This stuff is so awesome to work with. The colours are amazing, the quality is superb, trust me you can’t go wrong here!!
My answer is “absolutely” and I hope if you haven’t tried it you will next time you need some felt.
(Name removed!) doll-house doll
This week I decided to make a heart-themed doll called Valentine. She has wool felt clothes, a silk skirt and a waldorf-style doll head on a bendable frame.
I loved making this doll and have been making others. They take oodles of time to make, and are worth every minute spent! I have a couple of doll-house dolls listed on www.woolhalla.etsy.com
Update: Valentine has found a home! May she bring joy to the girl who will be her new playmate :o)
PS I am so sick of getting spam for the name of the doll in the post title I have removed it!!
Coyotes
Last night coyotes woke me with some crazy sounds. My kids all sleep through the night, but the coyotes come and toss me a curve ball in the ‘good night’s sleep’ department! They sure are fascinating to listen to.
Plant-dyed Wool
Making up some new bags of plant-dyed wool and everytime I get near the stuff I want to go off on a ‘wool’ tangent, needlefelting and so on. Must repress the urge as I want to make some more doll-house dolls, or rather, finish some doll-house dolls. I just love making things.
Alice… when she was quite small
So, when you go chasing rabbits… who has time for that?? I’m having fun making dollhouse dolls!!
Skiing
Yesterday I was able to join the school field trip as a chaperone to www.skiwhitewater.com and it was a beautiful day in that majestic part of the world. I finished the doll I was working on and hope to make another later today… I’m definately too sore to run around like a buff triatholon woman today.
I Love Felt
When customers order felt and I get to pack the amazing variety of colours I am inspired to make something! Today when I’m all done with my orders I hope to make a wee felt dress. Blue and white, not sure which blue colour yet. I love the cornflower, but think I might go for pastel today. If I figure out how to load a photo when I’m all done I’ll do that!
