Quick update

Just wanted to let everyone know I am not working very fast these days as I broke my ankle and will be unable to put weight on for my foot for a while.  If am around, just a bit of a summer snail :o)

Customer-made Horse and Zombie Unicorn!

Here are a couple of pictures, one regular and one zombie unicorn, made from my wool felt horse pattern.  Check out the adorable saddle on the black horse that was made for the horse (not in the pattern).  I love it when customers send in photos from patterns or kits I sell!!  Thank you Sue for sending these in 😮

Natural Toys just FEEL better!

As everyone knows, not all children are born with eyesight.  For some surgery can help restore vision, and for others it is permanent.  Stories continually amaze me, like the man I met who was legally blind since birth but rode a bicycle through downtown Toronto using his hearing and some ability to see grey blobs… I am not making that up!!

Girl with horse

I am thrilled to have just received a couple of pictures of a little girl (above) who was given one of my horses a little over a year ago.  I had sent off a couple of felt horses I had made to someone who volunteers at a therapeutic horse park to give one to a girl who rides there.

When this came up I wondered how it would be to only be able to only feel one of my 100% wool felt horses… they are soft, shaped like a horse and ‘warm’ to the touch from the felt and wool stuffing, lovingly handmade (of course!), plus they do also smell quite nice!  I then imagined the alternative, plastic with hard bits made by a machine.  It took me about a nanosecond to realise that a natural toy would would feel better all around even if you could never see it. Since that day I will often stop, close my eyes and feel what I am working on.

On the topic of blind children, I want to link a fundraiser for Max, the son of doll maker Amy, owner of Malula Dolls.  His page is Mad Max at Trolley Run 2012  . Of course you can always support Malula Dolls, which I adore of course!!  Her Facebook fan page is: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Malula-Dolls .

More wool felt deer…

Lately I’ve been into making these wool felt deer from the deer pattern I sell because they are just too cute!!  I’m trying out some new colours too, and today they escaped and explored the garden a little…

Aerial view of the big escape!!

The Purple Deer thought they could camouflage in the crocus patch...

Making time to stop and smell the flowers

Flower Fairy Dollhouse Dolls

Now, with the arrival of spring flowers the little free flower mowers like to come around and devour our flowers and saplings.  These ones are probably pretty harmless though… and will also be up in the shop soon.  For an exact time of listing, please check my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/woolhalla

Spring is on the way…

Mother and Baby Deer

The snow is slowly melting lately, and sometimes the deer are sleeping under the firs in my yard, but this mama & baby decided to stay in the warm workroom for now.  They are made from the Deer Family Pattern I sell: http://www.beardancecrafts.com/poppedijn_kits.htm which I also have the license to make and sell.  They are so adorable though, I think I’ll definitely have to make some more!!
